Type Description Use
Tapping Saddle Used to create a connection for a smaller branch line. May include a built-in valve. Water supply lines, irrigation, gas systems
Repair Saddle Wraps around a pipe to seal leaks or reinforce a damaged section. Emergency or temporary pipe repair
Support Saddle A structural support piece placed under a pipe to carry its weight and prevent sagging. Long horizontal pipelines or high-temperature lines
Thermowell Saddle Used to mount sensors or instruments like thermometers or pressure gauges. Industrial process monitoring

Materials

  • Metal: Stainless steel, carbon steel, brass (for durability and pressure resistance)

  • Plastic/Polymer: PVC, HDPE, CPVC (used in low-pressure or chemical applications)

Common Applications

Advantages

  • Quick and easy to install

  • No need for pipe cutting or welding

  • Cost-effective for repairs or retrofits

  • Can be used on pressurized systems (with proper design)

Limitations

  • Not suitable for extremely high-pressure systems (depends on design/material)

  • May require precise alignment and torque during installation
